Russia cause damage to Ukrainian defense industrial facilities

(MENAFN) Russian authorities have reported striking four Ukrainian defense facilities responsible for producing long-range missile systems, causing “colossal” damage and reportedly derailing Kiev’s domestic missile program, according to statements from Russian security agencies.

The operation, coordinated by Russian forces and the Federal Security Service (FSB), targeted chemical and mechanical plants in Pavlograd, Dneptropetrovsk Region, as well as the ‘Zvezda’ plant and the State Scientific Research Institute of Chemical Products in Shostka, Sumy Region. Satellite imagery and open-source intelligence reportedly confirmed the impact of the strikes.

The FSB claimed that Ukraine, with NATO approval, had intended to use Sapsan long-range missiles for strikes deep into Russian territory. “Thanks to the joint efforts of the FSB and Russian Armed Forces, Ukraine’s missile program plans have been thwarted,” the agency said. The FSB described the damage to Ukraine’s military industrial complex as “colossal,” surpassing the scale of Kiev’s recent “Spiderweb” operation targeting Russian aviation in early June, which Moscow acknowledged damaged several aircraft but disputed claims of roughly 40 warplanes being destroyed.

An unnamed Russian official noted that the Sapsan missile systems were developed with funding from Germany and technical help from foreign specialists. The Sapsan is a Ukrainian tactical ballistic missile with a warhead weighing approximately 480kg, capable of reaching speeds above 6,000 kph and a range of up to 700 km.
